Live Music and Concert Attendance Statistics

Current, citable figures on how people find, attend, and experience live music and performing arts events in the United States.

Last updated September 21, 2026. All figures retain the source year shown below.

At a glance

Six useful numbers, with the context intact.

These figures are designed for writers, event planners, venue operators, and music fans who need a quick, responsible reference. Each statistic links to its original publication, and the notes make clear whether the number describes a public survey or one company's concert operations.

What the figures mean

Live music travels through rooms, recommendations, and repeat nights.

Open-air spaces led the venue types measured in the national survey, while restaurants, bars, nightclubs, and coffee shops drew 10.3 percent of adults. For a band, venue, or promoter, that is a useful reminder that live music is not confined to theaters and arenas.

Discovery is equally social. The survey found social media was the most common first source among the options listed, followed closely by personal recommendations. Good live experiences have a built-in advantage: people can share the date before it happens, then talk about it after the room clears.

How to read this page.

The National Endowment for the Arts figures come from the nationally representative 2022 Survey of Public Participation in the Arts, administered as part of the U.S. Census Bureau's Current Population Survey. Its attendance questions describe activity in the 12 months ending in July 2022.

The Live Nation figure comes from the company's 2024 annual report. It describes Live Nation's own global concert business, not all concerts or all concertgoers worldwide.
